Did you know? Before the arrival of the Spanish, the word “Texas” (also spelled as tejas, tayshas, texias, thecas, techan, teysas, techas) was commonly used among the natives of east Texas. The word had various interpretations and transcriptions by the Spanish, leading to multiple theories about its meaning. It was generally referred to as “friends,” but the Hasinais tribe also used it to describe their allies, including the Caddoan group. The Hasinais did not use the name to identify themselves as a local group, but they did use it as a greeting, by saying “Hello, friend.”

Sterling silver is an alloy containing metals that react with chemicals found in air and produce tarnish; high moisture levels, exposure to sunlight and contaminants such as salt water increase this reaction. Take steps to protect sterling silver by keeping it in airtight packages, use tarnish-resistant products (such as tarnish tabs or strips) that absorb harmful chemicals, and store sterling in a cool, dry place. Most tarnish is easily removed by polishing with a mild abrasive or soaking in an anti-tarnish solution.
